We offer fixed and removable dentures, as well as partial dentures, which are a common solution for people who have lost their teeth.
About Fixed Dentures (Implant-supported)
Fixed dentures are prosthetic teeth that are securely attached to the jaw through implants. There are several options including an:
Implant overdenture – Typically used on the bottom arch, a denture is fitted onto 2 or 4 implants. This denture can be removed to clean, but stays in place when attached to the implants for a much more stable bite.
Fixed Denture – Can be done on the lower and/or upper arch. Typically 4-6 implants per arch that a denture is seated onto. These will be fixed in place and will not be able to be taken in and out.
Procedure for Implant-Supported Fixed Dentures
Here’s what the procedure typically involves:
1. Consultation & Planning
Dr. Weininger will take X-rays and/or 3D scans (CBCT) of your mouth to assess bone density and structure. If you have sufficient bone, they will discuss the best implant option for you.
2. Implant Placement
He will surgically place titanium implants into your jawbone (number of implants is dependent upon the desired prosthesis). This is done under local anesthesia, and it takes several months for the implants to fuse with the bone in a process called osseointegration.
3. Healing Time
After the implants are placed, you will need to wait several months for healing. Temporary dentures can be fabricated and worn during the healing process.
4. Abutments & Crown Placement
Once the implants have integrated with the bone, abutments (small connectors) are attached to each implant. After that, a custom-made prosthesis (denture or partial denture) is fitted onto the abutments. The denture or partial denture are then securely attached.
About Removable Dentures
These are artificial teeth that can be taken out and put back into the mouth. They are ideal for people who need full or partial tooth replacement.
Procedure for Full Removable Dentures (For Complete Tooth Loss)
Here’s what the procedure typically involves:
1. Consultation & Evaluation
Dr. Weininger will assess your gums and jawbone to ensure you’re a good candidate for dentures.
2. Impressions & Measurements
He will take digital impressions of your mouth to create a custom-fit denture, as well as other diagnostic impressions to obtain your natural bite.
3. Wax Try-In
A trial set of dentures (made of wax or plastic) will be placed in your mouth to check for comfort, fit, and appearance. Adjustments may be made at this stage.
4. Creation of Final Denture
After finalizing the fit, a permanent denture is crafted from acrylic or other materials and placed in your mouth.
5. Fitting & Adjustment
The denture is placed, and Dr. Weininger will check for any adjustments needed for comfort and proper function. You may need follow-up visits for further adjustments.
Procedure for Partial Removable Dentures (For Partial Tooth Loss)
Here’s what the procedure typically involves:
1. Consultation & Evaluation
Dr. Weininger evaluates the existing teeth and gums, ensuring there is enough support for the partial denture.
2. Impressions
Digital impressions of your mouth will be taken to create a custom partial denture, as well as other diagnostic impressions to obtain your natural bite.
3. Design & Try-In
A trial partial denture is designed, often with acrylic or metal framework. It’s placed in the mouth to check for fit, comfort, and appearance. Adjustments are made as needed.
4. Fabrication of Final Denture
Once the trial fits well, the final partial denture is created, either with a metal or acrylic base, and placed in the mouth.
5. Fitting & Adjustments
Your dentist will ensure the partial denture fits comfortably and securely, making any needed adjustments.
Which Type of Denture is Right for Me?
The procedure choice will depend on factors like your oral health, bone density, budget, and preference for permanence versus flexibility. Dr. Weininger will help guide you toward the best solution for your needs.
