About Tongue & Lip Tie Release

Formally referred to as a frenectomy, releasing the “lip tie” or “tongue tie” can have many benefits. On some children or infants, the lip tie can cause spacing of the front teeth, pain upon brushing, and struggling making some bilabial speech sounds. By removing this tissue, the patient can have closure of the irregular tooth spacing, brush easier, and annunciate their “B”, “P” and “M”s.

Similar to a lip tie, the same tissue is present underneath the tongue. This can lead to speech issues, recession on the lingual side of lower anterior teeth, and poor tongue posture. By removing this tissue, this can stop the recession on these teeth, help with speech, and lead to proper tongue posture to promote nasal breathing and cease mouth breathing.

Treating Tongue & Lip Tie Release

During a comprehensive exam, we will examine all of your oral tissue including underneath your tongue and lips. If something abnormal is noted we can treat this in our office.
